Music at Monica's, the concert series of the Church of Saint Monica, Berwyn, proudly presents the "world's reigning male chorus," the multiple Grammy award-winning ensemble, Chanticleer.

Called “the world’s reigning male chorus” by The New Yorker magazine, this San Francisco based GRAMMY® award-winning ensemble celebrates its 38th season in 2015-16, performing in the United States, Germany, Austria, Italy, Hong Kong, Singapore, Macao, the Republic of China, the People’s Republic of China. Chanticleer will also represent the United States at the biannual Festival de las Chiquitas in Bolivia, celebrating the rich musical heritage of the South American missions. Praised by the San Francisco Chronicle for their “tonal luxuriance and crisply etched clarity,” Chanticleer is known around the world as “an orchestra of voices” for the seamless blend of its twelve male voices ranging from soprano to bass and its original interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz and popular genres, as well as contemporary composition.

Chanticleer’s 2015-16 season will be the first under the direction of newly appointed Music Director William Fred Scott. The program at Saint Monica’s, titled “Over the Moon”, features a world premiere by Nico Muhly, music by Gustav Mahler, Jaakko Mäntyjäarvi, Mason Bates, Stephen Paulus, Orlando di Lasso, Claudio Monteverdi, Josquin Desprez and others, including spirituals, jazz and popular pieces.  There are offerings for all musical palettes as the group expertly sets the standard for choral singing, style and “suavity” in this substantially rich program.

Music at Monica’s exists to provide a free or low-cost cultural option to the greater community. All are welcome.
